Fur Face Friday

Hello and welcome to the wonderful corner of coziness that is Fur Face Friday. This week we started a new season and our fur friends marked the occasion with, well, naps.

Thursday evening open thread

I did nothing today. NOTHING! Well, I did put my sleeping bag in to soak in the laundry tub in the basement, but I'm going to let it soak overnight so I can hang it up on a drying rack in the driveway tomorrow morning, in the hopes it will drip enough so that I can eventually put in the dryer.

Didn't go for a walk, had a nap. Monty was very snuggly today.

Monday 🌔 OT

Happy 25th of September.

It's nice to discover there are other people in the world with the same thoughts as you. Still, I can't help but feel that posting the thought somewhere on the Web cheapens the source material to some degree.

Sunday Evening OT

Sunday is once again doing that thing where the hours before noon are twice as long as the hours after 3 pm. Why is that?

It’s your weekly Photo Gallery! Come on in, take a look at what people have been up to over the past week and share some of your own photos.

They don’t need to be taken with a fancy camera or works of art. Share any SFW photos you’ve taken with even the poorest of potatoes. Of course we love to see that arty stuff too.

Hello and welcome to the end of... well, let's be honest - a fairly craptastic week for some of us. September 23 is the autumnal equinox - ye gods, it'd be nice to actually have an autumn. What are the odds, ya think?

Fur Face Friday

It's the end of the summer. I don't know what we did to deserve this but they know!

In case you're new here, favourites are chosen by one of the Snout Selectors (facw, k2b, Hannibal, leahaven, and myopicprophet), entirely on our own whimsy. WHIMSY! However, in the interest of solidarity, we try to select one dog picture and one cat picture (minimum!) each week. Other pets will also, of course, be considered. We love all your rats, bunnies, ferrets, and other furry, feathery, and finny pals. WE WILL NEVER DISCRIMINATE AGAINST CUTE.

Thursday evening open thread

I may be in transit on the way home from an afternoon at the Toronto Islands when this goes up (aerial view from Viator.com).

The street is mounting a campaign regarding a new build across the road from me; we think there should be an environmental assessment done before construction, because construction could have an impact on our elderly houses, and if there is a new build, it should conform to the bylaws and zoning; the proposal has requested 9 variances to the bylaws, most of them quite major, and they could have an impact on the property values of our houses, the enjoyment of our houses (blocking light, etc.), change the character of the street, and give precedence for similar builds in the future.

We're not against increased density, but it's got to be done right. Basically, the owner (and it's unclear exactly who the owner is) wants to build a full sized second house on a tiny lot, with about 15 feet between the original house and the new build. This isn't a small laneway house at the bottom of the garden; the footprint will be almost the same as the original house, which is kept in poor repair.

So my next door neighbour and I went out last night and started a petition which will be given to our city councillor, and a number of people want to attend the meeting set up by the city to discuss the variances.

Monday 🌒 OT – The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Good evening, Citizens. The frost is on the pumpkin (not really, but morning wakeup has consistently been in the 60°F territory) and it's harder to get out of the bed in the mornings. At least for the larval humans. Me, I go from dead-to-the-world to fight-or-flight-I-just-heard-a-gunshot awake every morning between 3 & 6, Street Fighter* bouncy.

Thursday evening open thread

I got a letter from the city today about a neighbour wanting a zoning variance to build a laneway house right across the road from me. If it was any other owner, I'd have zero concerns, but the main house is in the worst repair; actual holes in the roof with tarps covering them, chunks of siding coming off, etc. On the other hand, the garage that is currently there is a real eyesore, so a new structure would have to be better, right? Right?
