Last Day of July OT – Don't Let the Door Hitcha Where the Good Lord Splitcha

Good riddance. I thought July would never end. It's a month so long that it needs to be said twice to truly encompass the horror and misery of July.

Now it's time for August, August, usually the hottest month. Just great.

Morning of July XXXI Open Thread

I haven't seen any conclusive numbers, but supposedly the average US viewer watches 100 movies per year, according to one site. Another article suggests that since streaming services became the norm, many viewers now watch more than 20 a month. And a different article stated that some watch at least one movie a day. That's quite a lot. I only got to my tenth movie in mid-April. I watched #50 yesterday:

Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964). Godzilla, Rodan, and baby inchworm Mothra vs the three-headed menace from Venus.

Monday Night Open Thread – July Dregs Require Something to Inspire and Aspire to

Just trying to survive the rest of the worst month and make it to August, which is even worse. Don't even get me started on September, the gum-stuck-on-the-bottom-of-the-shoe month. Followed by October. UGH. There's even a big "NO!" at the beginning of No!vember. Enough complaining. Let's just look at this iconic image of civil rights leader Gloria Richardson in Cambridge, MD from June 1963:

She seriously doesn't have time for your bullshit

Sunday later 🌳🌱

 Trees. They just stand there.

"Shubie" Tree. This tree has stood in a field near Highway 102 near Shubenacadie, N.S., for an estimated 300 years. It was blown down during post-tropical storm Fiona. (Len Wagg)

You'd think I'd be ready for a break from trees given the hedge-reduction project I've taken on at my parents' house. They're pretty neat though. So far I've spotted a hummingbird, a family of cardinals, several kinds of bees, and a blue jay in the hedge. Given the size of the hedge (10 to 12 feet high, several feet wide) there should still be plenty left for them when I'm done.

Early Bird Special OT

The early bird gets the worm. But what of the worm? Did he not also get up early? Poor worm. RIP.

Anyway get it while it's hot. Unless it's a float or shake. Owl's treating.

Fur Face Friday!

Welcome to Fur Face Friday. Lately, it's been feast or famine around here. Last week facw faced a dearth of submissions. But his plea for pics set me up with a veritable banquet of tasty fur faces! All so cute I could gobble them up. But they are strictly for viewing of course. Keep your forks outta our fur faces.

Thursday evening open thread

The demo of the collapsed building (from a year ago!) continues. They had to pour 2 feet of concrete in the pit to stabilise everything, and now they have to take it out to rebuild the house. What this means is non-stop concrete sawing, with all the attendant noise, dust and smell. Then they whack at it with picks. I guess a jackhammer would destabilise the two houses on either side. Apparently this will go on for about 7 months.

At the same time, the street that mine connects to, at the south end, is closed and being torn up, as well as the street parallel to mine, so people are looking to detour both north and southbound. My street is one way only, so I'm anticipating A) a collision and/or B) some road rage.

Building or destroying? What are you up to tonight? I noticed this place just popped up on Zillow. It's really distant, but as far as I can tell, that's the only downside.

Still from Metropolis, Lang, 1927. 1000+ four room suites, central air. Otis elevator. 4 1/2 bath.

It's been a gorgeous day here; about 23 C or about 73.5 F, with a pleasant breeze through the house.

I've contacted my lawyer (and I told him that I could here his eyeroll over the phone), so he's going to do a title search of the property, and confirm (or not) about what I think, and I have an appointment with him next Friday to discuss options for clearing this up. Then, I might be going to my sister's on the weekend to see if she's amenable to settling this issue once and for all.

The lawyer said that he had the basement flood through a window, all over his desk, which they've just discovered today.

I will have spent part of the day at the city committee meeting. I'm not speaking, but I'm the props manager; putting things on the overhead projector. As usual Nemesis is not using the overhead as a summary outline, but is putting the entire presentation on it; 7 pages. Both other neighbour and I have talked to her about this in the past (other neighbour is a teacher and knows about presentations), but this lesson has not been taken on board. I mentioned it in this case, but I'm not going to mention it again, in aid of being over dealing with Nemesis.

Wednesday Evening Sunflowers

Is there anything more beautiful than flowers gone to seed? Kiefer reminds you that a bloom's "death" is a symbol of renewal too, that there's more than sadness in the image.
