Monday Evening OT

Hunters in Lithuania not only passed up an opportunity to shoot a brown bear, but they also refused to do so. Well done, hunters.

How was your Monday, Balkers?

Sunday evening 📦T

🎶This is the move that never ends🎶

How's it going?

The Photo Gallery

It’s your weekly Photo Gallery! Come on in, take a look at what people have been up to over the past week and share some of your own photos.

They don’t need to be taken with a fancy camera or works of art. Share any SFW photos you’ve taken with even the poorest of potatoes. Of course we love to see that arty stuff too.

Fur Face Friday

Hello and welcome to Fur Face Friday, where we recharge from a wearying week with the power of cute endorphins. Last week, our sweetie pies practiced mindful floofy joy. This week, the exhibit the spirit of inquiry. Like this mama coon at Best Coast’s place, wondering what the hell you think you’re doing looking at her bebbehs.

Thursday evening open thread

I did nothing all day; nothing! I did think about doing things; does that count?

What was everybody else's day like?

Blaurgh!Talk

The time of the weekly reckoning is upon us. Cry havoc and let loose the blaurghs of all the things!

Today in 1870 The Opera Valkyrie by Wagner premiered in Munich.  Cat sized armor probably wasn’t in the original show, sadly.

We never did get the rain yesterday, and now it looks like it won't arrive until Thursday with the cold weather. We do actually need it.

I guess I have to return my overdue library book and pick up the books that have come in for my cottage trip.

Thursday evening open thread

More rain this evening, apparently. It's certainly overcast and windy out there.

Hair cut accomplished, and I visited a new to me store and found that they carry the shampoo and hair conditioner that I used to get at the package free store in bulk, and this place carries it in bulk too, so you bring in your own container and fill it, which means less plastic. I also bought a heatable neck pillow, which has lavender in it (mmm) and is made by a local artisan, so I like supporting local, both the store and the producers.

I also made another police report of the same car driving the wrong way down the street again; he does it 2 or 3 times a week. Unfortunately, I can't upload any video or images onto their site for some reason, not even screen captures.

Blaurgh!Talk

Hello, all. It's nearly the end of the week and it's time to cleanse ourselves of the all-consuming blaurgh. Come on and give us a growl and/or a grumble.

Other than the more important remembrance of the day. Today is also the first official town ball game played by the Knickerbocker rules back in 1846. Today we call the game baseball. The New York Nine defeated the Knickerbockers 23-1

We didn't get the forecast rain yesterday, but it's supposed to rain today (if the weather people are to be believed), with thunderstorms. We've had a dry few days, so we can use the rain.

Monday Evening OT

I've made some famously bad typos here on BackTalk. It's nice to learn that it's not my fault. I'm not stupid. I'm plagued by demons! I feel exonerated.

Did you have any triumphs today, Balkers?

Sunday evening 🐧T

Nature is full of excellent male parents. I used to keep Beta fish, who would make bubble nests and tend their eggs so carefully. After the fry hatched, the male Betas would keep their babies up at the surface so they could breathe.

Cardinals are team players.

Tools for Coping: 3.5% and Effective Non-Violent Civil Disobedience

This is a long watch, but really worth it. Jon Favreau of Pod Save America interviews political scientist Erica Chenoweth and the 3.5% threshold that we've been hearing about and the most effective means of causing positive change in an authoritarian environment.
