This makes me feel old. Newsround just turned fifty. How did that happen?
Originally, it was John Craven's Newsround, a news bulletin on BBC1 aimed at 6 to 17 year olds that never spoke down to its young audience even when covering difficult subject matter. They often broke headline news ahead of the main news.
Craven presented the show from 1972 until 1989. It still runs on CBBC and online.
