That was pretty much the end of the zeppelin. Recently, I've seen them turn up in dystopian fiction. Cory Doctorow's Walkaway and Kim Stanley Robinson's New York 2140 come to mind. Thanks to the same highly destructive late stage capitalism and resulting climate crisis critiqued in those fictional (but all too real) novels, the giant airships may be poised for a comeback — not for passenger service, but as an environmentally friendly means of delivering goods around the globe.
Doesn't sound as fun as those steampunk ones and not as glamours as a penis rocket since there isn't a billionaire most efficient zeppelin contest.
