Wildlife Show demonstrates power of going Green

The Beeb's Natural History Unit has scored a first by running an entire episode of Winterwatch on renewable fuel. They ditched the normal diesel generators used for outdoor broadcasting for a hydrogen power unit, avoiding 3.3 tonnes of carbon emissions.

Provided by Siemens Energy and Geopura, the hydrogen generator uses hydrogen gas made by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity generated by solar and wind power. When used the hydrogen turns back into pure and drinkable water, meaning that the ‘exhaust’ is emissions and waste free and the process is entirely circular.

Winterwatch is a live show (a seasonal sister to
Springwatch) and naturalist Chris Packham, biologist Gillian Burke, and ornithologist Iolo Williams provide viewers with a crafty peak at birds, badgers, foxes, fish, and other critters in the UK.
