Sunday evening post

Most of us are probably waiting out the snow and cold at home. Hopefully everyone has power, heat, and something warm to sip.

What are you doing to stay warm, BT?

A couple views of the snow in far east of Russia.

Some satire related to current events.

What's up?

Labour Day Eve OT

 Greetings from Lake Huron!

Flora and I are spending the last summer long weekend in the Saugeen/ Bruce Peninsula. The internet here is intermittent so I'll drop in to chat if I can. I scheduled the post while I had a good connection.

So far I've visited Bruce National Park and hiked a bit of the Bruce Trail- it goes all the way to Niagara! I just walked a few kilometers from Halfway Log Dump towards High Dump.

Halfway Log Dump

High dump?

A couple views from the lookoff points towards High Dump.
Looking back towards Halfway Log Dump.

Look at that water.

Happy Labour Day! I hope you're all able to take a break from your labours. Or maybe you've got a satisfying project to work on.

Are you alienated from your labour this weekend or taking matters into your own hands and seizing the means of production?

Sunday Dinner Post

Almost spring!
they can talk (web comic)

Anyone have a favourite signs of spring? 🌷🐇🐣

Sometime this evening the Liberal Party of Canada will annoince the winner of their leadership race. S/he becomes the Prime Minister designate. Parliament is prorogued for another couple weeks, but I expected they might ask the Governor General to dissolve parliament and dropmthe writ for an election.

Follow all the fun over at the CBC. The two previous Liberal PMs, Trudeau and Chrétien, will both be speaking. If you don't remember Chrétien, here's a refresher.
I love his accent. He recently turned 91 and still gives political interviews. (He's on at about 1:10 minutes.)

Sunday evening 🎡T

I was just reading an article about people's end of summer wish lists and realized I haven't been on a fair ride in a while. If I get back in time, I might think about going to the Canadian National Exihibition (aka the CNE, aka the Ex). It's crazy busy, though. I like ferris wheels ect, crowds not so much.

I checked one thing off my summer list this week: I finally went on a trail I'd been meaning to visit and never got around to (I took the cover photo on the walk.) I've gone swimming in the Atlantic and in a lake, had Moon Mist ice cream, been to the beach, and made a t-shirt, so I've done many of the things I meant to do this  summer.

How about you? Anything you've done or plan to do this summer?

Sunday later 🌳🌱

 Trees. They just stand there.

"Shubie" Tree. This tree has stood in a field near Highway 102 near Shubenacadie, N.S., for an estimated 300 years. It was blown down during post-tropical storm Fiona. (Len Wagg)

You'd think I'd be ready for a break from trees given the hedge-reduction project I've taken on at my parents' house. They're pretty neat though. So far I've spotted a hummingbird, a family of cardinals, several kinds of bees, and a blue jay in the hedge. Given the size of the hedge (10 to 12 feet high, several feet wide) there should still be plenty left for them when I'm done.

Anything fascinating you at the moment?

Sunday Evening ⚾️T

This afternoon I almost saw a baseball game. I left a little late, then ran into a former work friend I hadn't seen in ages and had a chat. Finally arrived at the park only to realize I lost my team ballcap somewhere enroute. Decided to retrace my steps a few blocks but ended up with mission creep and retraced them back so far in the end I decided it wasn't worth it to turn around and go back. I didn't find my hat. 😢 I did get an ice cream.

I'm posting a bit early for the Balkers in timezones to the east of me. However don't stop visiting the Gallery to have a look at everyone's photos and projects from the week.

Sunday Evening 🥅T

In honour of the start of a new shinny season, here's a couple of  trailblazers in women's hockey.

Back in 1956, little Abigail "Ab" Hoffman convinced her parents to let her go to tryouts for a hockey league, since the notice didn't specifically say it was for boys- it was assumed. No one noticed Ab was a girl until she was chosen for the all-star team and had to show her birth certificate to join. Needless to say she wasn't allowed to register for the next season.

Sunday Evening ghOsTie 👻

I've got my costume all planned out: Paper Bag Princess! I've got a yard waste bag for the dress and a big stuffed dragon I bought years ago at Ikea. All I need is some yellow construction paper for a crown.

Sunday Evening 🎃T

Hellooooo Backtalk!

The Orionids peaked this morning, but there's still plenty of time to see them if you have a dark sky handy and star-gazing is your thing. https://www.space.com/orionid-meteor-shower-peak-2023-good-year

It's been a beautiful fall day. I'm working on an assignment. Discuss your day below.

Just Sunday, wandering off. At least it's heading to the beach. Never stays long enough but I wish it well.

Sunday Evening OT

Sunday is once again doing that thing where the hours before noon are twice as long as the hours after 3 pm. Why is that?

Sunday Evening OT

It's been a stressful few days. Here's the photo I was going to share for FFF if I hadn't been busy at the vet. There were three little fawns in this little family, but this little guy was the only one who came close enough for a good photo.

Sunday evening OT

This song seems appropriate since the local wildfire is under control, more people are headed home, and the ban on being in the woods is being lifted at midnight. There is still a fire ban of course. The much larger fire in Shelburne county is still out of control, but they're getting the rain too. 🌈☔

Oops! It's Sunday PM and this is BT

Good evening! I accidentally published this over at GT even though I remembered to check that I was in the correct blog... I guess I didn't change options firmly enough. All sorted now.

Just look at that adorable fuzzy, feathery dinosaur. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/feathers-may-have-helped-dinosaurs-survive-their-first-apocalypse/
