Last night I rewatched Shanghai Triad for the first time since college. It's as good as I remember, but also watching art house films may be one of the reasons I was depressed. Or maybe it's the other way around.

Was young BC/C miserable because of depressing movies, or drawn to depressing movies because she was full of angst? The whole movie isn't depressing; it's beautiful to look at, the writing is tight, characters have arcs. It's easy to see why it got so much attention and nominations back in 1995. That said... I didn't feel better about humanity at the end.

My report cards are due tomorrow, so that's what's going on this evening. I'm feeling pretty happy with Past-Codco/BC because I got all the prep work done over the last two weeks (updated comments for each grade, letter grade, and strand (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing), finalized the marks for the kids who've handed everything in, chased down SOMETHING from the kids who didn't). All I had to do today was decide on a few last final marks, and enter the comments. I reckon I'm about an hour away from being done.

Watched this adorable movie this weekend. The duck steals every scene, but the rest of the cast are enjoyable too. Weirdly, the trailer focuses more on Rhys Darby than the duck, but trust me, there is far more duck content in the movie. 

I'm ready for some lighthearted beach reading and relaxing summer viewing between checking in on the state of our many crises.
