Are there any good wizards in Fantasy? They seem to have awesome powers that prove unhelpful in the end. They're usually like the anti-Chekhov's rifle; if you show them in Act I, they all but disappear by Act IV. Cuz the hero has to do it themself or something, I guess?
Cheech Wizard by Vaughn Bode, just like it says on the tin. |
Sometimes literally, like Obi-Wan. Blah blah heroes journey blah blah. Campbell never meant that to be a plot outline, and the monomyth is BS, cherrypicked to give the illusion of universality.
Can you name a good wizard in fiction and why they're actually useful? Other than plot device?
How was your Monday? Whatcha have for lunch? Weather, jeepers amirite? Pamcakes are the best dinner fight me, etc.
