Thursday Evening Open Thread

I went out for dinner last night with my retired colleague A, to a restaurant/pub we've been to before, and I ordered their penne with sun dried tomatoes, feta cheese and black olives in tomato sauce, which I've had before. My plate arrived and I started digging in, and thought: "This is way hotter than I remember", but kept going. I was about halfway through, and thought "There are no olives". I was on the subway going home, when I realized "There was no feta cheese either". It was in a tomato sauce, so it was hard to tell if there were sun dried tomatoes or not. My friend said that it sounded like an arrabiata sauce, which is spicy.

Now, it was very noisy in the restaurant, so our server had some trouble hearing our orders, but I pointed it out on the menu, so there would be no errors.

When I got home, I looked up the menu online; no penne with arrabiata sauce. The only other thing with a tomato sauce was a spaghetti bolognese.

I think I was served something that was not on the menu! Which is a wrong thing. Maybe it was what the staff were having for dinner, but if they were out of the penne with sun dried tomatoes, feta cheese and black olives in tomato sauce, they should have told me, not made a substitution without asking. What about people with food allergies? If it was the bolognese sauce over the penne, then it had meat in it, and I ordered a vegetarian dish (not vegan, not with the cheese)

Anyway, I'm off tomorrow, and will be going to the dentist to see about this new night guard that they think I need.
