Happy Jane's Walk weekend to all who celebrate.
I've been reading Do Androids Dream of Electric Cars and watching City Nerd videos. Someone here posted one of his videos, but I can't remember who. Thank you to whoever it was, because I'm really enjoying them.
There's definitely a culture of walking in my small east coast city, but it's more for recreation. Families tend to go for evening walks, so you'll see several generations out together in the parks, which is lovely. When it comes to running errands or getting to work, it's very car-dependent.Happily, there's a lovely waterfront walk that was saved from urban renewal in the 70s. My high school history teacher was one of the young activists who successfully opposed putting a freeway between downtown and the harbour. It's now hugely popular with tourists and locals, and a big draw to the city.
