Open Thread for AM Wed

Good morning, village of talk backers. Welcome to 17 January.

Manuele Fior, late 2011, illus. for  Il mio mondo in 50 libri (My World in 50 Books) by Alessandro Baricco, published in Repubblica.

Beautiful loose watercolors. Melancholy, lots of rain. Minimalist tale of teenage love, decisions both good and bad, sliding into middle aged resignation. You can't go home again. A lovely thing if you're more interested in mysteries than answers. It ends but is anything resolved? A good Italian movie in Fumetto. Takes place over decades in Norway and Egypt and a little town in Italy.

Currently (1/10/24) reading Beowulf translated by Maria Dahvana Headley, which after a long trip around the house has finally ended up back in my hands. Begins with "Bro! Tell me we still know how to speak of kings!"

What's up with you?
