Every
spring I’m not in DC there’s so much other fracas in the world – esp the past 8
years – that the WHCA dinner sneaks up on me
Ayman
Mohedin will be on short-straw reporting duty tonight for MSNBC – which I appreciate
since he’s the kind of correspondent willing to have Professor Jason Stanley,
noted scholar on authoritarianism, on as a guest on a night like this during a historic
time like this … but the cynic in me also thinks, since there are protestors against
the Bibi-IDF genocide in Gaza (and the Columbia president having her students
who were protesting peacefully jailed by the NYPD *before* they were suspended
from campus / legally classed as trespassers) outside the Washington Hilton
where the event is being held, that the network thought it was safer for him to
be out there since he was more easily recognized as a person of color than any
of the White anchors at the networks
Besides, nobody who has any sense thinks it would’ve been a better idea to have Katy Tur, Chris Jansing, or Andrea Mitchell out there instead
