I don't remember the Tanizaki story being longer than fifteen to twenty pages. The movie is a different beast altogether. At least I learned one or two things about courage.
Ayako Wakao in Yasuzō Masamura's Irezumi, 1968. Based on "The Tattooer" by Jun'ichirō Tanizaki |
Same with 3:10 to Yuma. Somehow a ten pager turned into a two hour movie and everyone was twenty to thirty years older than in the Elmore Leonard story. I learned a few things about honor though. Come to think of it, Johnny Mnemonic... On second thought, let's not speak of that one ever. New Rose Hotel either even if it has Christopher Walken at his goofiest. I learned nothing.
