Just trying to survive the rest of the worst month and make it to August, which is even worse. Don't even get me started on September, the gum-stuck-on-the-bottom-of-the-shoe month. Followed by October. UGH. There's even a big "NO!" at the beginning of No!vember. Enough complaining. Let's just look at this iconic image of civil rights leader Gloria Richardson in Cambridge, MD from June 1963:
She seriously doesn't have time for your bullshit |
Look up the word fierce in the dictionary |
Here's a closer look at her story and legacy From Baltimore Magazine
"Gloria Richardson stood ten toes down for your civil rights" from the Black Wall Street Times
And a short video for those who haven't the time or inclination to read longish articles about her:
She died in June of 2021 at the age of 99. In July, of course. As an interesting side note, her second husband was the photographer Frank Dandridge, who documented the movement for Life Magazine in the 60s. He photographed the sole survivor of the Birmingham church bombing. It's still hard to look at but it's important and it's here along with many other photos and a partial bio. Dandridge trivia: he went on to script TV shows including Kung Fu, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Incredible Hulk, and St. Elsewhere. Staff writer on Generations. Assigned to take pics of this dude in '66 at some place called Woodstock:
