Sawney Bean and Christie Cleek* – OT for the Day Before Halloween

Alexander "Sawney" Bean (sometimes also given as Sandy Bane, etc.) is a legendary figure, said to have been the head of a 45-member clan in Scotland in the 16th century that murdered and cannibalised over 1,000 people in 25 years. According to the legend, Bean and his clan members were eventually caught by a search party sent by King James VI, and were executed for their heinous crimes. ~ Wikipedia

"One does not simply wok those one murders." o
In those 25 years, the Beans also engaged in incestuous pairings resulting in murderously insane and deformed offspring.

The story, of course, is not verifiable.  It's probably another instance of othering by England, although some scholars disagree. There are potential links to reports or rumors of starving people digging up bodies or eating dead animals found on the street, but there's scant evidence.

Whether or not you knew about Sawney Bean's clan, you've likely heard stories very much like it, at least watched films reminiscent due to the squick factor, even if they're missing one of the key elements. A partial list of fiction I associate with the legend: The Hills Have Eyes, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Descent, Firefly & Serenity, The X-Files ep. "Home", Wrong Turn, Pandorum, Bone Tomahawk, Spider Baby, The Road, etc., and some real life monsters too.

Sawney Bean/Sawney's Death Dance – Snakefinger  Any Snakefinger fans out there? ... no?.... ok.

So whatcha eating/what's eating you today? Here I sit, upvoting shit. I do not like it, not even a bit.

* Christie Cleek was a precursor to the Sawney Bean legend, minus the incest. "Minus the incest" is a phrase I already regret writing, and now I've written it twice.
