One of my personal favorite things about NYC is that if you can’t get all the way out to Ashe for whatever reason for the US Open men’s final (traffic, exhaustion, you don’t live in Queens, don’t have time to take the train, blah blah blah) - at least two parks, one in Manhattan and one in the BK, will show the final on a HUGE screen so you can watch with your fellow fans
In 2008 I
thought I was trying to prep to beg or borrow a ticket bc I thought we were
FINALLY going to get a Federer-Nadal Grand Slam final on our continent (lol)
and then Rafa got hurt and Andy Murray beat him in their semi and so I just
couldn’t find the juice to try for the scramble
So I watched
the Federer-Murray final in the park and it was great
So you can imagine I felt some kind of way after predicting YKW and his entourage would try to ruin the party for the regular New Yorkers who just wanted to support their team
But Mayor Mamdani said “no problem” and just moved the Knicks fanwatch party to BRYANT PARK
So please text all your people if they don’t already know, lol
ETA: It looks like registration for the party is closed - but this might be a great place to get alerts for the rest of the season
Also Ali Louis Bourzgui (did I get that right?) gave what I thought imo was the best speech - here are some excerpts
(I can only find shorts of it because CBS, eyeroll)
And I’m trying to guess whether the wrap / jacket that the Queen wore to present was designed by Dries like Meryl’s shimmy jacket in Prada 2 -- but I really did kind of wish that she'd kept on the black dress she had on when she was sitting in the front row and I don't know who designed that
So everyone who has better information than all that -- please fill us in, share who you thought was best dressed, share who you thought gave the best performance
Tell us if you think Victor Wembanyama is going to ruin "Knicks in Four" (bc once that young man catches fire I fear for the dream, lol)
