Lost Saturday Bridges to a Great Escape

We should be getting the last of the election results today, including the London Mayor. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly will be revealed. Debating if I can get to the dam without being drenched. Probably not if the forecast is correct.  As long as that rocket doesn't fall on your head, do you have any hills to climb this weekend?

Here's some stuff.

Lately if I look for any bat-stuff results are dominated by Covid and general disease spreading. Perhaps the ghost of Cousin George is telling me something? Of course, Roger Glover and Co tell us to Beware of the Bat on The Butterfly Ball and The Grasshopper Feast. If you are not familiar with Butterfly Ball, the album is on YouTube, though this mix seems to run the tracks backwards. The Alan Aldridge book is still in print as well and worth tracking down from library or bookshop.

Do not put live animals in the post.

Is the cat in the box dead or alive?

Dog saves cat from well.

The goats with human voices.

Somebody's idea of a prank.

Meet Long Boi, the tall duck of York.

French Fishermen threaten Jersey Blockade.

Why are French Fishermen angry?

The Return of Twaite Shad. (Not a Star Wars movie.)

Sign Wars.

Could Steve McQueen jump that fence in a train?

Longest pedestrian bridge.

Jenny will be a Railway Child again. Fun fact: E. Nesbit's home is just beside the Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway line.

What was on the menu in 1913? Mixed Grill for me please.

Lost golf course rediscovered. I can relate to this. Back in the early Eighties, the old GLC (Greater London Council) lost a park in Misfitville (reclaimed swamp). This was beyond the Clockwork Orange and just behind where I witnessed a house built in an hour (It would be nice to go back and see if that is still standing?). Some folks in planning had been showing developers round the town and one asked what the overgrown expanse was behind the houses. Fancy that, it's a park with two lakes and we, uh, forgot about it. A bit of grass cutting and pruning later, I got to go along on a soggy Sunday morning for an opening ceremony. Flamboyant GLC Leader Sir Horace Cutler rolled out with a fellow called Peacock who was wearing top hat and tails. Just what you need in a muddy paddock.

The rebel librarian and the steel baron.

Got your lottery tickets? Bring me back a steak.

Over to you folks.
