Today is the anniversary of the Alamo. Also the start of the expedition of the Seven Cities of Cíbola or Gold. Some versions of the story of the expedition actually have them heading as far north as Nebraska looking for gold. It also inspired one of my favorite cartoons as a kid “The Mysterious Cities of Gold”
As a kid I really didn’t appreciate the scope of the story they were trying to tell. Probably worth a rewatch someday.
