Wednesday Morning OT

Good morning. Welcome to Wednesday the 5th, and if you're in the USA, have some water and a couple acetaminophen for your nightmare hangover.

In 2021, Missouri spent over $71million on fireworks, by far the most of any state. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission wrote that "... there were an estimated 10,200 fireworks-related injuries in 2022. 73 percent of those injuries occurred during the one month surrounding the July 4th holiday."

Illinois.gov states, "According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), fireworks started an estimated 12,264 fires in 2021, including 2,082 structure fires, 316 vehicle fires, and 9,866 outside and other fires. These fires caused 29 civilian injuries and $59 million in direct property damage."

Every year I snort at the first reported ID4 accident, but by the second or third I just get depressed. And of course it's impossible to get a bunch of careless thrill seekers to clean up after. Red white and blue fragments everywhere. For that tiny fleeting thrill of watching things go boom. Bleh.

Hope your day goes smoothly, and if you're back at work, best of luck.

*Independence Day is still the best movie about aliens attacking the world on July 4, forcing the president of the USA to croak a tepid version of the St Crispin's Day speech from Henry V and then fly a fighter jet to defend us all.
