This is the location where it happened. When I say 'it' I mean the events of The Man with the Golden Arm by Nelson Algren. When I say 'events' I mean the apartment where the character Frankie Machine lived. I don't mean the dental studio either. The address in the book is 1860 W. Division. Ora Dental Studio is 1854 Division, and the apartment across the street is 1890 Division, so right about where the dark SUV seems primed to turn is where the apartment would be. A complete fiction which just happened to be quatre corner from Algren's real apartment at the time.

Wednesday Post (Clusterf*ck) Debate OT

Hope it went the way you all hoped. Other than a ball gag or another assassination attempt–since moderators and factchecking are too much to hope for– I can't imagine anything newsworthy happened. I just wish half the US voting population would just admit their sole idea of a "real" American is a straight, white, misogynistic man, and that the rest of us can just go to hell (if we won't serve them). I'm going to put the rest of the election on fuzzfocus and figure out what we need to do after November 5. Here's Walt Kelly's Pogo with his usual happysad take on the world:

Those two dots over the second syllable in the C words above, easily mistaken for umlauts, are called "diaereses". The single form is "diaeresis" (rhymes with "die, heiresses"). Apparently the world is unaware of Canada's classic-est of classic bands. I think that's a shame. Unfortunately, their lead singer passed away from cancer in 2017. It's hard to express just how beloved The Tragically Hip are, especially to Canadians of a certain age.

Fur Face Friday

 It's Fur Face Friday. Last week our fluffy pals were suffering through the, hopefully, last gasp of summer. And are now enjoying the start of meteorological fall.

In case you're new here, favorites are chosen by one of the Snout Selectors (facw, k2b, Hannibal, leahaven, and myopicprophet), entirely on our own whimsy. WHIMSY! Right up there with Judy Blume, Virginia Hamilton, Marvel's Greatest Super-Hero Battles, and Lad, a Dog. Dad recalled I always had a book with me. But which book?

Sorry about Monday, and thank you to whoever posted the OT (guessing k2b since she's Johnny-on-the-spot when others are remiss, so thanks, k2b). There was a health emergency which took me out of town, and I'd left my phone at home. I was out from 1:30PM 'til about 11PM. Nobody died but I feel like garbage, at least partly because the only food I'd eaten was from a hot dog joint nearby. Basket of fries at around 3. Actually, it was cheese fries. You know, for the calcium. 

Anyway that's my excuse. I can't promise it won't happen again, but I'll try to call in and at least say I've got a bad cold.
