World Press Freedom Day Statement
Peter Sagal from NPR’s “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me” co-hosted this HBO ‘cast with David Simon, the creator of the work they discussed in depth – “The Plot Against America”
Peeps here have heard me talk about it before because David Simon talks candidly about the fact that he wrote it & cast it with amazing actors (Morgan Spector, Zoe Kazan, Winona Ryder, John Turturro – and that’s just off the top of my head) in order to try to call 2016-17 American attention, based on the Roth alt-history novel, to what could potentially happen to the world if a fascist were put into power as the Nazis came to power in the 30s
Still feels timely
It's a
6-part series; they did a ‘cast for each series, and this e5 segment is one of the
ones that caught all my attention as the turning point scene described depicts Winchell,
the more moderate/progressive candidate, speaking outside as
Lindbergh-supporting infiltrators ginned up violence in the crowd … and the police,
who were surrounding the crowd in the ring, did … nothing … to break up the
violence
