The world we grew up in is more than slightly off its axis, and we are going to need all our coping skills and invent some new ones
I want to extend gratitude to everybody who expressed condolences last night for the loss of my family friend. I learned there will be Celebration of Life at the end of the month, and barring any other incident chaos I hope to be able to attend all the things
Also our collective culture lost another titan (you all may have gone over this on the morning post; I was dodging angry New Yorkers and cops looking to nab people on Valentine's Day weekend) -- enough of that seems to keep happening that I keep wondering if some of our cultural lights are like
"You all haven't figured this out yet? I am out of here" like when we lost Prince, Bowie, and Alan Rickman in 2016
I know people are probably posting Godfather I and II clips all day but I'm wondering if anyone saw him play judge and father (suffering from illness he was hiding from his family) opposite RDJ Jr's hotshot lawyer / prodigal son in this
Bonus Vincent D'Onofrio and Jeremy Strong as the other two sons in the family, if you can believe it
Or sometime-*sshole patriarch with Kyra Sedgwick & Julia Roberts as his daughters & Geena Rowlands as his wife in this (with Bonnie Raitt giving us the title track)
We're also going to have Danielle Moodie talking with both Mary Trump and Jared Sexton in comments about their coping skills while keeping it real
and
Rachel is doing a full segment tonight on community pushback to the "construction" of these concentration camps -- just like she was the first to keep covering the protests until every national network was covering them, so hopefully this will have the exact same effect
#NIMBY4Good
and
we
got a Jill Scott Tiny Desk concert in comments, everybody
(and
they’re giving us the riff from D’Angelo’s Chicken Grease in the underbelly)
So
please also feel free to post your other music and aromatherapy and workouts
and recipes and every other kind of community care for these ridiculously
challenging times
