WEDNESDAY OT – embrace the darkness

Hey, Mr Vampire I–IV are on the Criterion Channel. YESSSSSSSSS. My evening plans are set. Shame they don't have Mr Vampire 1992 or  Encounters of the Spooky Kind I and II, but I'll take it..

I'm debating dropping Netflix. What a ripoff. Their original shows and movies are not worth the extra money they're demanding for commercial-free viewing, and the commercials breaks are way too frequent on what is now the budget option. MAX at least has a few things I want to watch, and like Prime, places their house ads right at the beginning. They all kinda suck. Which streaming service is pissing you off the most?

ETA – What I ended up watching instead was The Fearless Vampire Killers, or Pardon Me, but Your Teeth Are in My Neck (1967) by infamous pedophile, sex pest, and fugitive Roman Polanski. Ostensibly a comedy, but there isn't much funny. No life in it, and everyone's very busy with pratfalls and Three's Company-level bawdiness. It looked great though, especially the very real Italian castle which is the real star of the film. Polanski met Sharon Tate on the set and later married her. The rest is grim history. Tough watch (for several reasons) which took me three nights. No violence or nudity, although Tate is shown once in soap bubbles, like a Tijuana Brass album cover. I think with a few tweaks, it could have been a half decent Hammer Horror Dracula movie. If you find that you simply must watch a Polanski film, at least spend your guilty night watching Chinatown, Repulsion, or Rosemary's Baby. There's humor in those too. Pitch black humor, sure, that you're probably not supposed to laugh at, that seems to play more to Polanski's strengths. [Rentable online. I got it from the library gratis]

Good night.
