Monday Evening Open Thread

Today has been one long auditory festival.  My radio station, which identifies as the local indie alternative station, has been running a promotion: donate (minimum $20) to their charity and they will play any song you request. ANY SONG, not just the stuff that generally falls within their indie alternative wheelhouse.  So the day's choices have been gloriously random, ranging from Supertramp to Siouxsie, Rick Astley, KISS, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and David Bowie singing "The Little Drummer Boy", some things even I couldn't identify, and local musicians and bands sending in their own stuff for a little exposure.  I can't remember the last time I have enjoyed the radio so much.  I like a mix in my music. And yes, I did send in a donation, and not only did I get a tax receipt, they played my song on the radio!  The song? Well, I was determined to have the weirdest submission of the day, so I submitted Brian Eno's "Fat Lady of Limbourg".  What the rest of the audience made of it, I don't know, but I was pleased.

The only thing I judged to be of a similar level of weirdness was this song by Gogol Bordello.

So, if you had one song you could request, what would that song be?  Would you go for the eclectic? Would you go for the one song that completely repudiates the format of the radio station?  (The last probably accounts for the fact that my indie alternative station had to play Taylor Swift today.) Would you go for an old favourite? Let me know in the comments.  And, you know, fill me in on what's been happening, since I've been isolating at Ma Finch's for a couple of days.
