Friday Morning Open Thread

National Pop Goes The Weasel Day is enjoyed by many on June 14.

This day celebrates the nursery rhyme that we all have been singing since we were kids. It has been around for almost 300 years now. This day is a great throwback to those childhood memories. Not many would know that the rhyme was a comment on the social-political scenario during that era and the poverty that people had to endure. https://nationaltoday.com/national-pop-goes-weasel-day/

The first idea is that the rhyme is written in Cockney rhyming slang – a popular way of speaking in Victorian London’s East End, which people used to disguise what they were saying. In this idea, ‘weasel’ means ‘coat’ and ‘pop’ is all about pawning possessions (which you can find out about lower down at https://www.museumoflondon.org.uk/families/rhymes-in-time/pop-goes-the-weasel).

Happy Friday!
