I feel like there's a lot of us saying to each other right now
"We haven't been through anything like this EVER as a country"
and part of that is because we have to actively seek out survivors (of, say, 1930s Germany) or get them to talk when we never asked before and they didn't talk about it (from, say, codified Jim Crow in the U.S.) to even get a reference point
"The Whitelash/Backlash Was Always Coming" - Pulitzer, Peabody, & McArthur Genius Grant Winner Nikole Hannah Jones Talks with Pulitzer Winner Wes Lowery
But I'm always grateful when John Oliver does a segment on something -- public media, in this case, and the good it's done, the extent to which we've collectively relied on it, and the assault on it from the regime and its "media partners" -- because then I can just hand it to people instead of going into a diatribe
So here it is
Public Media – Last Week with John Oliver
Because if I hear one more person say "I get my news from Facebook" -- especially given the oligarch dudebros hungry for technofeudalism and the floods of lies they both tell and allow to support their narratives -- IDK what I'll say, but I have a sneaking feeling it might not meet the highest standards
😑
Chani says the week may END with sweetness, help, & hope even though it may be starting with more than a few RUDE awakenings
and a laugh from Tilda Swinton, because this is hilarious and we should probably all do it when we can
